Legislative   Branch

The Legislative Branch in comprised of the Student Senate and its committees.  The Student Senate includes 14 Delegates, who are elected every Spring, ​and Organizational Representatives, who are selected by each organization represented in SGA. ​Each Delegate and Organizational Representative sits on ​at least one committee of the Student Senate.

The   Student  Senate

The Student Senate meets every Wednesday at 4pm to receive updates from the Executive Branch, discuss student concerns, and vote on SGA policy and resolutions.  Any student is invited to attend these meetings, but only Delegates and Organizational Representatives may vote.

Committees

Our committees are dedicated to tackling student issues across the board from safety, housing, dining, and even community service!  Please submit a complaint here if you have an issue you want brought to a committee.

American Disabilities Act & Safety
Chairperson: American Chemical Society - Shannon Joins 
​This committee promotes accessibility to the campus and its resources for students, both current and prospective, as well as faculty, staff and visitors. The committee also works to foster increased disability awareness on campus. Additionally, the committee works closely with the Concord University Police Department regarding areas of concern on campus with safety issues.
Beckley
Chairperson: Vice President - Nich Forinash
The Beckley Committee seeks to keep students at the Erma Byrd Center connected with the main campus of Concord University.
Budgetary Commission
Chairperson: Business Manager - David Meadows
​This commission of SGA oversees any and all funding requests for discretionary disbursements from campus organizations.

Commuter
This committee focuses on all issues concerning commuter students and making sure they feel welcome and comfortable on campus.
Concord university Student Affairs
Chairperson: Ombudsman - Bayleigh Meadows
CUSAC is a branch of both the Faculty Senate and the SGA. The committee is comprised of three voting students, three faculty members and three administrators. The Dean of Students attends meetings to give added input on student-related issues. ​
Higher Education
This committee tracks current legislation and resolutions and follows the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to keep the Student Senate and all Concord students up-to-date on any possible changes or upcoming events. The Chair of this committee also organizes the SGA’s annual trip to West Virginia Higher Education Day at the State Capitol during the Spring Semester.
Philanthropy
Chairperson: Vice President - Nich Forinash
This committee focuses on creating community service options of students, planning philanthropic events, and helping local community organizations such as the Children's Home Society, Mercer County Animal Shelter, and Toys for Tots.
Rules
Chairperson:  Parliamentarian - Kevin Sawyer
This committee focuses on creating, implementing, and explaining procedural, constitutional, and by-law changes and amendments.
Technology
Chairperson: Secretary - Skyler McCallister
​This committee primarily focuses on internet-related issues on campus by working closely with the Center for Academic Technologies and the Computer Center to exchange ideas, determine solutions and resolve problems. ​
